2024 Topps Chrome Basketball Is Here

Pre-orders launched for the new 2024 Topps Chrome Basketball today at Noon EST. This is Topps’ first foray into NBA trading cards since 2009-10 Topps Basketball, which housed Steph Curry rookie cards. It’s only fitting that the product returns with a new generational talent entering the Association.

Sitting at $269.99 on Topps’ website and holding two autographs in every box, this product will mark Victor Wembanyamas’s first official professional autograph in a Spurs uniform (albeit unlicensed). You can also chase young stars like Shae Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Haliburton. And the insert sets are never-ending.

You have Youthquakes, Finesse, Destiny, Coast to Coast, and Seasons Best. Helix, which debuted in 2024 Topps Chrome Baseball, features a 25-player checklist composed of rookies and veterans. The SP I have my eye on, though, is the Lebron James Time Machine. While the exact card hasn’t leaked yet, I think I might’ve found it in an old post by Topps on Facebook.

After Lebron eclipsed 40,000 career points in March, Topps naturally released a Topps Now card commemorating the achievement. Randomly inserted in those orders were “Time Machine” short prints, which pictured Lebron holding a piece of paper that read “40,000 March 2, 2024”. I believe that card is now being repurposed in 2024 Topps Chrome Basketball. There is a catch, though – this insert set has no base cards in the product.

The most common edition is a Gold Refractor (presumably out of 50), which can be found in 1 out of every 11,826 packs. Then you have the Orange Refractor (1:23,249), Red Refractor (1:116,242), Red Refractor Auto (1:116,242), Superfractor (1:581,208), and Superfractor Auto (1:581,208).

It seems safe to say that even in a product featuring Victor Wembanyama, the Lebron James 1/1 Time Machine Auto will be the most coveted card from the set. Do you believe that’s the case?
