Soccer Future Watch: Simone Pafundi Soccer Cards, Lausanne-Sport – Simone Pafundi is looking forward to returning to Serie A in January 2025. He was the first player in his age class to debut in the league in 2022 before moving to Lausanne-Sport on a loan. Pafundi, a super-skilled attacking midfielder, acknowledged that he grew a great deal as a player defensively during his tenure in the Swiss Super League.
The brother of another youth soccer player, Pafundi was born in Monfalcone and began playing for UFM Monfalcone. Discovered during a youth tournament by scouts from Udinese, Pafundi joined their system in 2014.
The 2021-22 season marked a stark jump forward for Pafundi during his time with the Udinese U19 team. There, at only 16, he tallied six goals and seven assists in 16 games in the Campionato Primavera 2. Pafundi then signed his first professional deal and was promoted to Serie A play.
Pafundi’s opportunities were sporadic, leading up to his loan to Lausanne-Sport in January 2024. Posting a goal and two assists before the end of the season, Pafundi was also rising up the ladder of international soccer. He debuted for the U21 team and senior national team after previously having suited up for the U16 and U17 squads.
As Pafundi prepares for what’s next, he is drawing comparisons to Antonio Di Natale and even Lionel Messi for his pace, ball control, and field vision. Pafundi has spoken of the increased confidence that he has gained through the course of his experiences. That, combined with rapidly developing skills, positions him well for a lengthy, successful career at the sport’s highest levels.
