Mason fought his way onto the 49ers’ 53-man roster last preseason and suited up for 19 of the team’s 20 games (including playoffs). The undrafted rookie spent most of the year on special teams, but he was able to get some run as a backup in the second half of the schedule. Mason performed particularly well over a three-game stretch from Weeks 13-15, when he accrued 171 rushing yards on just 23 attempts. The Georgia Tech product should return as San Francisco’s third running back in 2023 behind Christian McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell.
