NBA Future Watch: Terrence Shannon Basketball Cards, Minnesota Timberwolves – Terrence Shannon is a strong-scoring wing who has continued to progress for many years. His capacity for further growth marks him as capable of being part of a strong support system for Anthony Edwards on the Timberwolves through years of serious contention.
A basketball player most of his life, Shannon’s growth spurt in high school positioned him for a breakthrough. In his senior season he posted 15.0 PPG, 7.5 PPG, and 2.7 APG. Shannon’s athleticism was also leveraged on the gridiron, though he eventually committed solely to hoops.
With a light dance card in recruiting on his first go-round, Shannon transferred to the IMG Academy. He raised his stock playing for the Mac Irvin Fire in AAU play. As a member of the Class of 2019, Shannon fared far better. He earned four-star status and sifted through many scholarship offers before choosing Texas Tech.
At that time, Shannon’s three-point shooting was behind other parts of his game and his .257 3% limited his opportunities. But Shannon jumped exactly 100 points from distance the next year as he continued to progress.
In 2022, Shannon found greater opportunities at Illinois. There, he jumped to 17.2 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.8 APG, and 1.3 SPG. Further improvement in 2023-24, in the form of 23.0 PPG, 0.9 BPG, and .801 FT%, catapulted Shannon into the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft with Minnesota. On a team that ranks among the NBA’s best, Shannon will have time to polish his game, largely in the G League. Expansion of his consistent shot radius and improvement with the handle and secondary playmaking are Shannon’s most important tasks. Already prized as an exciting player, Shannon could be seen as a star if his efforts are successful.
